DEARNE VALLEY – Bolton Ings (SE4302) – 2+1j Mute Swan, 52 Greylag, 6 Canada Geese, 24 Gadwall, 12 Mallard, 15 Pochard, 10+6y Tufted Duck, 7 Little Grebe, 2 Great Crested Grebe, 121+5j Coot, 1+2j Moorhen and 11 BH Gull. Also present were 1 Cormorant, 2 Grey Heron, 1 LITTLE EGRET, 2 Lapwing, 2 COMMON TERN, 1 Kingfisher, 1 Grey Wagtail, 2 Whitethroat, 1 Blackcap and c30 Goldfinch (Alan Whitehouse per today’s BARNSLEY BIRD SIGHTINGS and John Seevior per Twitter)

DEARNE VALLEY – Broomhill Flash – 2+4j Mute Swan, 16 Canada Geese, 1 Greylag, 28 Gadwall, 9+11j Tufted Duck, 9 Mallard, 1 Pochard, 23 Little Grebe, 9 Cormorant, 3 LITTLE EGRET, 136 Coot, 4 Moorhen, 11 Lapwing, 2 Snipe, 1 Common Sandpiper, 38 BH Gull, 1 COMMON TERN and 4 Kestrel (Alan Whitehouse per today’s BARNSLEY BIRD SIGHTINGS)

DEARNE VALLEY – Old Moor (SE4302) – 3 Shelduck, 1 Wigeon, 6 Cormorant, 11 LITTLE EGRET (at least 10 at same time as the 39 on Wombwell Ings); 1 MARSH HARRIER, 1 Buzzard, 1 HOBBY, 1 PEREGRINE, 2+2j GC Grebe, 1 Water Rail, 1 LRP, 2 Common Sandpiper, 3 Green Sandpiper, 2 Snipe, 6 COMMON TERN, 1 BARN OWL, 3 Kingfisher, c.10 Sand Martin, 2 Reed Warbler (Per today’s RSPB-DEARNE VALLEY-RECENT SIGHTINGS and Barnsley BSG per Twitter)

DEARNE VALLEY – Wombwell Ings (SE4102) – 78 Mallard, 39 LITTLE EGRET, 10 Grey Heron, 2 Coot, 1+2j Moorhen, 14 Lapwing, 12 Ringed Plover 10 over (P. Kent early AM ), 1 GREENSHANK, 1 Snipe, 1 Kestrel, 22 BH Gull, 3 Pied Wagtail, 1 Meadow Pipit, 1 Linnet and 1 Reed Bunting (Alan Whitehouse per today’s BARNSLEY BIRD SIGHTINGS and Barnsley BSG per Twitter)

DON VALLEY – Thorpe Marsh NR (SE5909Z) – 4 Oystercatcher, 24 Lapwing, 1 Kingfisher (Neil Shaw)

HUMBERHEAD PEATLANDS – Hatfield Moors area (SE7106D & SE6905X) – 12-14 used Grey Heron nests in the regular Heronry close to the Moors (Mark Paine).

WENT VALLEY – Southfield Res (SE6519) – 1s CETTI’S WARBLER in Willow scrub on southern bank, only second record for this site (Adrian Scutt and Clive Featherstone)

WENT VALLEY – Went Ings (SE6519) – 1 GREENSHANK (Adrian Scutt and Clive Featherstone)

LOCALWeather: mainly clear skies with occasional scattered cloud during the early hours, dry throughout. Visibility: very good/excellent throughout. Temperatures: +17.5°C to +13.5°C to +26.2°C to 17.9°C. Wind: very light and variable in direction but wholly from within the NW quarter until noon; then very light from the SW until 1800hrs; then light ENE/E thereafter.
