BIRD REPORTS

DEARNE VALLEY – River Dearne – Bolton Upon Dearne to Bolton Ings – 12 Tufted Duck, 2m Goldeneye, 1 Kingfisher, 1 Grey Wagtail, 2 Goldcrest, a few small mixed Tit flock and Bullfinch (Gary Stones per Twitter)

DEARNE VALLEY – Bolton Ings (SE4302) – On an 85% ice-covered eastern pool were 4 Mute Swan, 36 Gadwall, 35 Tufted Duck, 29 Pochard, 17 Mallard, 2 Teal, 2 Goldeneye, 10 Cormorant, 1 Grey Heron, 446 Coot, 21 BH Gull, 11 Herring Gull and 5 Common Gull. Also present were 2 Goosander over east, 2 Little Grebe (on R, Dearne ), 1 Sparrowhawk, 1 BARN OWL, 94 Lapwing over east at 12.20pm, 2 Snipe, 2 Jay, c50 Goldfinch and 2 Bullfinch (Alan Whitehouse per today’s BARNSLEY BIRD SIGHTINGS and John Seevior)

DEARNE VALLEY – Broomhill Flash – 90% ice-cover. Present were 1 Mute Swan ( 304Y on red ring on left leg), 250+ Canada Geese, 13 Greylag, 11 Shelduck, 84 Wigeon, 50 Teal, 24 Gadwall, 22 Tufted Duck, 20 Mallard, 20 Shoveler, 7 Pochard, 1 male PINTAIL, 1 Cormorant, 25 Coot, 3 Red Legged Partridge, 2 Snipe, 1 Lapwing, 116 BH Gull, 4 Common Gull, 2 LBB Gull, 1 Herring Gull, 4 Mistle Thrush and 1 Song Thrush. Also seen were 120+ Golden Plover flying around Wombwell Ings and 200+ Woodpigeon in the trees along the R. Dearne. (Alan Whitehouse per today’s BARNSLEY BIRD SIGHTINGS)

DEARNE VALLEY – Old Moor (SE4302) – 6 Shelduck, 1 PINTAIL, 445 Teal, 136 Shoveler, 17 Pochard, 42 Tufted Duck, 11 Goosander, 1 BARN OWL and 1 STONECHAT on Wath Ings along with 6 Goldeneye,  2 Dunlin, 1 Green Sandpiper, 1 PEREGRINE on a distant pylon, 17 Common Gull,plenty of wildfowl, 1 Water Rail, 1 CETTI’S WARBLER and 3 BEARDED TIT (Gerald Lax per Twitter)

DONCASTER ROBIN HOOD AIRPORT – 1 Buzzard, 4 Red-legged Partridge, 1 Snipe, 2 SHORT-EARED OWL, 2 Kestrel, 2 Meadow Pipit (Tina Langford, Dave Adamson, Chris Robinson and MSh per Twitter). Added to Birdtrack

DON VALLEY – Sprotbrough Flash (SE5300F) – 2 BITTERN, 1 Water Rail and 1 Kingfisher (Martin Roper). Added to Birdtrack.

POTTERIC CARR (SE5999, SE6099, SE5900 and SE6000) – 9 Shelduck, 1 BITTERN, 1 Little Egret, 2 MARSH HARRIER, 1 Green Woodpecker, 1 Great Spotted Woodpecker. BUFFER AREA – 1 Kestrel N, 1+ PEREGRINE, 3 Ring-necked Parakeet, 50+r Magpie, 50,000r Starling, c.60 Greenfinch (Paul Paddock, Richard Scott). WENT VALLEY – Southfield Res (SE6519) – 2 Egyptian Geese N, 1 r-h RED-BREASTED MERGANSER, 1 Water Rail, 1 SHORT-EARED OWL, 1 Grey Wagtail and 4 BRAMBLING (Adrian Scutt). Added to Birdtrack
